Today marks the opening of Kalifornia Kitchen, my new plant-based restaurant in Central London. Located on Percy street, just off Tottenham court road, Kalifornia Kitchen is all about healthy, conscious food inspired by California. I first wrote up the concept & even had the logo designed for this project over 2 years ago, before any realistic expectation that it could manifest as a working space. After months of setbacks & upheaval, today we open the doors.
The tag line for the restaurant is “healthy is sexy.” I want to inspire people to eat healthier, cleaner food & adopt a more conscious lifestyle in the process. Spread over 2 floors, we are open for breakfast, lunch & dinner with a menu that prioritises the creative use of plants over fake meats & processed foods. Designed to be as colourful as it is tasty, i like to think our food is creative whilst accessible to those who aren’t necessarily vegan, but simply want to eat clean. The mission with the restaurant is to make plant-based food desirable & accessible, helping people access more conscious food choices & celebrate it in the process.
As to be expected, the road to opening has been far from smooth. A number of issues with the building, lead times on key deliveries & of course staff has meant we’ve had to be flexible. I’ve decided to document much of the process on our social media channels to help bring people into the journey & follow what goes on. This has allowed us to learn what our followers would like to see and build a community before we open the doors.
This month we have a simple all day menu, and will develop an additional dinner menu in January. Tables are available to book from 5pm midweek & all day Saturday, with walk-ins & take-out available all week for lunch. You’ll soon be able to find us on Deliveroo too!
